• Strategic Management

– a set of managerial decisions and actions that determines the long-run performance of a corporation

• The emphasis of strategic management is on monitoring and evaluating external opportunities and threats in light of a corporation’s strengths and weaknesses.

Globalization and Strategic Management

• Globalization is the internationalization of markets and corporations. It has changed the way that modern corporations do business. As more industries become global, strategic management is becoming an increasingly important way to keep track of international developments and position the company for long-term competitive advantage.

Strategic Management includes:

• Internal and external environment scanning

• Strategy formulation

• Strategy implementation

• Evaluation and control

• The time horizon involved with regard to basic financial planning is usually one year.
