CIS– 315 Management Information Systems is a self-study course whose grade is based solely on the final examination. This course of study that is necessary to be prepared for the final examination consists of fifteen lessons based on the readings from the textbook. Students should read the entire text of all the reading assignments. There are no formal homework assignments, but students are encouraged to answer all the review questions at the end of each chapter to ensure that they have understood the relevant course material are well prepared for the final exam.

Course Description:

This course is designed to familiarize students with the concepts related to the utilization of information technology in business organizations. It will focus both on technical and managerial aspects of information technology adoption in the organization. Topics such as information technology infrastructure, electronic commerce, information systems and business strategy, ethical issues related to information systems will be covered.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Recognize basic information system concepts as applied to business operations and management.
  • Identify the major components of a computer system, including hardware, software, operating systems and operating environments as they apply to information systems.
  • Evaluate, select, and use computer-based information systems from a management perspective.
  • Comprehend the interdependence and functionality of the hardware and software components of information systems and work with the MIS staff to make technical decisions.
  • Analyze the impact of e-commerce and Internet technology on information integration and dispersal.
  • Design and develop basic MIS applications such as spreadsheet, database, and web development.
  • Utilize the understanding of how to utilize large-scale computer applications systems to assist with business management and operations.
  • Explain the nature and importance of information systems in business.
  • Analyze business processes and their relationship to information systems.
  • Assess the impact of information systems on the success of organizations.
  • Analyze the relationships among ethical, social, and political issues raised by information systems.
  • Analyze the impact of e-commerce and Internet technology on information integration and dispersal.
